Port-to-Fort Adventure Race

On Saturday Brian and I ran in the Port-to-Fort Adventure Race up in Muskogee along with another guy from his battalion.  We had a blast!

We dropped Mikey off at Sam and Josh's house Friday evening at bedtime.  They were super nice and took care of him so that we didn't have to worry about what to do with him up in Muskogee.  Anyways, we spent about an hour trying to get him to go to bed, he put up quite a fight.  He finally went down around 9 pm and we were able to go pick up the other guy, Rick, grab dinner, and get out of town.  We made it to our hotel around 1:30 am and were finally able to hit the sack around 2.

The race started at 7:50, but we needed to get our packets, so we planned to be there around 7:15.  We had absolutely no issues parking or with traffic and we were able to get our packets without any problems.

The race began with an open water swim in Three Forks Harbor.  It was a pretty short swim, maybe about 50 yards before we got out and ran up a hill and jumped about 8 feet back into the harbor for another 30-40 yard swim.  We climbed cargo nets to get out of the harbor and started on our run.  The run was 5 miles of trail that included sand, climbing up and down pretty steep areas, and hurdling logs and such.  I ran in my barefoot shoes for the first time in almost a year and it damn near killed my feet, it was brutal!  About halfway through the run we had to throw a rock and hit a metal trashcan (which Brian got on the first try) before continuing on.  The run finished at Fort Gibson where we had to answer a historical question about the fort (we answered wrong and had to do some time in the jail cell...1 second).  After the history at the fort we ran back down to the river where a canoe was awaiting us.  We did the run kind of slow because I run slow...add to it that my feet hurt and I'm not used to trails and it slowed us down even more.  We made up some massive time in the canoeing portion.  It was a 5 mile canoe ride back down to the harbor and we CRUISED.  We passed so many teams because we got into a great rhythm and all of us worked hard.  Once we arrived back at the harbor we had to get our canoe up this really steep hill and it was a short sprint to the finish line.  I think we finished in 2 hours and 26 minutes (possibly quicker, we haven't received our chip time yet).

Upon finishing we received a beer and a medal, which always makes for a awesome finish!  It was a blast and we plan to do this race again next year!
Awesome tan line that I acquired.  Please excuse my weird claw looking foot...I swear it doesn't always look like that

They love each other.  Even if they do fight like siblings.

Hopefully I will get some race pictures and results here soon.
