Museum of Life and Science

We headed out to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham today with Franny and Colt.  It is about a 30 minute drive to get out there, but totally worth it.  Franny and I both remember taking field trips there as kids, but neither one of us remembered it that well.  Well...its AWESOME!  They have a ton of stuff and its totally affordable.  Entry for an adult is $14 and a train ride (which is also worth it) is $3.  The train ride lasts about 12 minutes and there is lots of cute stuff around the track.  There are tunnels, mirror men, numbers to count and decorations that vary (i assume) depending on what time of year it is.  There were Halloween decorations all over the place, Mikey and Colt LOVED it.

The museum is pretty much all outdoor and has so much stuff to do!  We are going to have to go back because we didn't see anywhere close to everything.  When you first walk outside there is a huge playground with things to climb, slide, crawl through, music to play, sand to dig, etc.  The playground is definitely geared towards kids of all ages.  I even had a good time climbing and crawling while following Mikey around.  Just beyond the playground there is a zoo area.  They have museum employees giving lessons and things for kids to touch.  There were alpaca, pigs, goats, and other animals.  The stalls were big enough for the animals to be comfortable and happy and small enough so the kids could see them all.

Continuing along, there is a nice cafe, train station, and butterfly sanctuary.  We ate at the cafe (affordable and delicious) and rode the train, but did not get a chance to go into the Butterfly sanctuary...we will have to do that next time.  Just beyond those attractions was an awesome dinosaur trail.  It was a cute little path that had different dinosaurs situated just off the path or in mulched areas where the kids could touch them and climb on them.  We didn't finish the whole path, but the boys loved seeing the dinosaurs and running around like wild men.

We missed the wolves and bears and I know there were more attractions out that way, but we had to get the boys home to nap.  They both napped til around 4:30...needless to say we will be returning!

Its like herding cats...

Closest thing we got to a picture together
